Hydrosols or floral waters are created with essential oils during the distillation process of fresh herbs, being the bulk of the distillate. They contain water soluble hydrophilic elements of the original plants, sometimes called weak acids. Hydrosols are used when essential oils will not be tolerated, especially by children, elderly, chronically ill or those with strong allergies.
Artemisia absinthium was one of the important ingredients of the famous liquor, Absinthe.
Wormwood herb expels intestinal worms and repels fleas. The word absinthium means 'without sweetness' and refers to the intense bitterness of this herb. The bitter substances are not present in the hydrosol. Wormwood hydrosol is very aromatic.
